The rapid pace of globalization and consumerism fills the vacuum created by the collapse of a socialist state. Rather than passing a moral judgment on whether shopping centers are bad / good, examine the use of space. Who was displaced, who now goes there, who or what comes next? Can shopping centers be aesthetic objects? Can we imagine the mall in 100 years? In 5,000 years?
